REPORT OF AN EXPERT.
The representative of Messrs. BRATBY and TINCHLIFFE, LIMITED, Aerated Water Engineers and Chemists, Manchester, visited our factory recently in the course of a tour amongst Eastern Aorated Water Makers, and was greatly surprised at the compactness of our factory and also the methodical way in which everything pertaining to the making of Aerated Waters was carried out. He also expressed himself strongly on the absolute cleanliness of our whole establishment, which he assured us was equal to any he had yet vinted and superior to a great many. He also reported that the quality of our goods was of a first-class nature, and they showed that scrupulous care was exercised in the course of their manufacture.

The most interesting section of the report is that relating to the construction of a line of rail seross the lab. Princa Khilkoff and his assistants had to contend against peculiar difficulties. Owing, as it seems, to vulcubic disturbances in the bed of the lake, fissures and hammocks were constantly forming on the ico, and the problem was so to construct the railway that it should not be liable to be torn ap at any moment by the sudden formation of a sauce. The method adopted was to by a sumber of planks crosswise over the places where fissures were likely to occur and upon the pilo to place the sleepers and rails. Prince Khilkoff describes in detail the method of transporting troops across the ice. Immedi. ately upon the arrival of a body of troops at Baikal Station inquiry is made among the soldiers as to those who may be iu particular need of warm clothing, and distribution is made from the stores supplied by the Empress and the Empress Dowager, by the Red Cross Society, and by private persons. In many inst suces officers have arrived at the station so poorly supplied with warm clothing that they have been glad to avail themselves of the far cloaks provided.
