The so-called canals of Mars are regarded us an illusion by many astronomers, but by others are supposed to represent vegetation--possibly enltivated by inhabitants. A new theory offered by A. Dr. Tasker, when asked last month concern. ing the reported postponement of his match HOW MEN HAVE MISSED MAKING with Tarrasch, gave evidence of his strong dis approval of the course paraned by the challenger in his conduct of the negotiations. On the contrary, he had specifically informed Dr. Tarrasch that he, as champion, had no right to enter into a long- drawn-cut agreement with any particular challenger whereby other aspirants for cham-yet they have failed. pionship houours were thrast aside. Farther, Dr. Lasker said he had stipulated that he would be prepared to play at any time on three months notice. No reply, however, was vonchanted by Dr. Tarrasch. Why have they failed
To the expert observer the cause is very obvious. Success is achieved only by energy, and energy is what they lack.
Now, energy, whether of the hand or the head, is produced by food. A starred man can neither dig the ground proparly nor think out a matter clearly.
Has a man, therefore, in order to become energetic, merely to be supplied with good food?
No; unfortunately the case is net so simple as that. The food that he eats must do its work
properly; must make rich, pure blood, and repair the waste which is continually taking place in his system. Food can only do this when the digestiva organs are in perfect working order. In persons whose digestion is impaired food etsgrates, croatos gases in the stomach, and not only fails to properly sustain them but aggra vates their complaint and polsong the system.

The process of homogenising milk-perfected by Gaulin of Paris--consists in forcing the milk, at about 185 deg. F., from a closed drum in very fine jets against a porcelain plate. The fat globules are broken up into very minute parti eles. There is no subsequent tendency for cream to riso, digestibility is not affected, and whion combined with pasteurization, the treated milk keeps a long time unchanged.

Not only does that medicine, eradicate disease; it promotes health and energy, those absolately indispensable qual ties in all who are called upon to fight life's battle. It is a purely natural tonie, composed of fruits, roots, and herbs, containing no mineral substance whatever. For thirty-five years it has occupied the first place among all medicines whatsoever and evidence as to its curative power is constantly forth- coming from the sixteen principal countries of the world.
