Most of the numerous high hills over there indeed would make excellent health-resorts for Hang- hong residents. At the present time the only drawback is the diffenity of conveyance. But for this, I believe there would have been a sanatorium or hydropathic established in the district some time age. If one the railway or tramway is constructed through the New Territory such an institution should be among the first attendant developments.
CONCIERT.
By kind permission of Rear Admiral Grenst. his band from the Vettor Pleani gave a concert in the Club Theatre last evening. It is very saldom that Amay residents have an opportunity of Hstening to first-rate performances of this kind, und no doubt the Club Theatre would have been filled on this occasion, but mufortunately the weather conditions were not all that they might have been, and this kept many away from hearing the best music we have had in Amoy for a long time. The undience listened with evident pleasure to the skilful rendering of an excellent programune, and showed by their applauso their appreciation of the good music they wore treated to. The proceeds of the concert wore devoted to the Amoy ChinesŰ. Hospital.

will form a welcome addition to our navy. Since his Majesty the Emperor awakened the conscience of the nation with the inspiring words which he uttered at Hamburg a few years ago, the representatives of the people have cheerfully given the assout to the scheme for a vigorous development of our navy. But what has been done is by no means the final goal of opt progress in this direction. In view of the improvements which are unceasingly being introduced in shipbuilding the older ships are rapidly superseded in respect of their fighting efficiency. The security of our country therefore demands that additions and renewals should be made over and above the present programime. The issue in the conflicts of rations is decided not on land alone but also on sep, as the latest events in the theatre of the world's affairs have once more demonstrated beyond dispute. Germany most-win for herself a position as a naval Power which will place her on a perfect level with other countries just as in the past the Germup towns which were associat ed in the Houscatio League were a match for any other soa Power. By command of the £m- peror the new cruiser is to bear the nurse of Lubeck.
