WITH THE PONTI AND MANDARIN PRONUNCIATION,
For comprehensiveness and practical service this Work stuns narivalled. All the new words" which the Clauese have of late years been cour
Mr. and Mrs. P. Knight pelled to coin to express the numerous objects in machinery, photography, telegraphy, and in science generally, which the rapid advance of foreign relations has imposed upon them, are here given in estro. Each and every word is fully illustrated and explained, forming exercises for stulenic of a most înstructive nature. Both the Court and Punti pronunciations are given, the secants being carefully macked on the bost principle hitherto attained. The typography displays the success of an attempt to make the Chinese and English type correspond in the size of body, thereby effecting a vist economy of space, achieving a clearness not previously attained, and disposing with the vast margins and vacant spaces which have heretofors charac torized Chinese publications.
