SPORTING NOTES.

There is not so much in the way of sport în Hongkong to-day as mual. Perhaps the war sud the approach of the Races combin-d'male the interest taken in cricket, football, ats, mora langafi temporarily. The Cricket Ground is given over to a League match and the chief football ground to ʼn Rugby game of not the bighost importance. Morever, there is no ydch- ting, so the day altogether is unayoutful com. pared with recent Saturdays.

Similar difficulties to those in the Football Shield Competition arise in connection with the Hockey Cup. The first round was to have been completed on the 10th inst., but the Leviathan v. The second round must be ujshed on. or before the 22ad inst,, but as the Ocean has to play the winners of that tie, ami the 93rd Burmas 2nd team has to meet the Vengeance there must either be delay or acratching. The days of the Race Musting are drawing very near now, and backers are beginning to pick out their fancies, I am not given to compete with the tipsters, but I shall be aur- prised if the Barøy stable does not go near for the Derby. By the way, the thought of Derby favouritas prompts me to ask whether the owner of Narses, who was until lately so mich fancied for the race, really knows or approves of the treatment administered to his pony by Chinese mofos. If the wretched animal is incorrigibly vicious, why not shoot him instead of torturing him in the way in Chinese riders and grooms have done of late ? It is almost a case for the 9.P.C.A. Eyewitnesses will bear me out.
