ounding aud. general ongiosering work.
In addition to the manufacture of locomotives engines, for which there is a constant demand, this Company will undertake repair-work of all kinds in connection with railway rolling stock. Thero is to the knowledge of the Manager only one small workshop in Japon which undertakes work of a similar charelor to that proposed to be carrini au by this company. It will readil. be seen, therefore, that there is a great want in Japan for a company with modern machine-tools and a thoroughly effi- cient equipment capable of carrying out work in accordance with the Memorandum of As. engines for the East. These designs have been sent home, and the engines constructed from these designs have, when completed, given univorsal sati-faction. From his intimate knowledge of the various Japan se ilways, he is thoroughly accquainted with their require- ments, as well as with the different types of locomotives now in service, now on order, and other contemplated, and for which orders have not yet been placed. It will be seen, therefore, that the Manager has an intimate knowledge of the type of engines regaired for the Japanese Railways, and the cost of manufacturing and delivering these engine aad. the prices no ually paid for them by the buyers.
The land which the manager proposes to acquire for the Company is situate at Kanagawa, Yokohama, Japan, and is suitable for the pur poses of the Company as it adjoins the railway and water.
It is estimated that the buildings fully equipped can be completed and ready for work ten months after building operations commence and that 25 locomotiva angives will be completed within six mathe of the completion of the workshops, and that the manufacture will go on of the rate of 25 sngines for each buif years These oonld be sold for cash as completed.
Extensive orders are very frequently given for steel railway and other bridges for the East and in view of the development of railway construction, euch orders will continue to bo ined in inor-ased volume for many years to come. It is the intention of the compan, to undertake the construction of such work, from which large profits are expected to be realised For several years past there has been a de maud by the smaller of the Japanese Railways' the 21et NOVEMBER, 1903, at 11 A., on Board, for the purchase of loceuutives and rolling
