I have the honour to inform
that in compliance with your
directions I have been to the Mint and
inspected the Treasure box which contains Lead in lieu of Sycee Silver, and am
decidedly of an opinion that the box never contained anything but Lead,
and was prepared and substituted for the box which actually did contain the Silver. I should
say
the box had never
been opened after the first time of nailing down until now at the Mint; judging from
