BOMBAY COTTON TRADE.

China-The total exports to Clins amounted to 24,425 bales against 120,151 bales last year. The latter figure, however, was an abnormal one and due to exceptional circumstances. The past year's crop of Chinese cotton was a very large ore, and prives in Chius ruled relatively cheaper than those for catton laid down from Bombay. For the first half of the sesson under review the exports to Chias were consequently very small. During the second half the ship. monta bmounted to 19,000 bates, chiefly towards the end of the statistical year.

Japan. The experts to Japan totalled 312,648 bales this year against 690,198 bales last your. The extent of the very heavy shipments lo Japan was duo not to a legitimate demand from Japan spinners, but to the enormous quantities of cotton sent ou consignment. These were so large and so much in excess of Japan'a requiro ments that on the 1st October, 1902, there was a stock in Japan of about 250,000 bales. Japan spinners bought considerably of American cotton early in the season, while the very large Chinese crop and the low Chinese exchange which stimulated esports from Chins ousblod Japan to draw large supplies thence, bor import of Chiness cotton amonating to about 250,000. bales. She was all the more impolled to this by the relative cheapness of Chiar cotton. It was consequently askinated that Japan would not fake from Bombay more than 31,003 bales, the actuala ameanting to 312,648 bales, the bulle having been in the second half of the season under review, while even in this total a coasi-; derable quantity was ou consigamout account. Ganurally speaking, Japan would appear to hay e supplied the bulk of her requiron sats for thé year at very moderate prices,
