The Bill now before the Legidatura would go a long way towards improving the present state of affairs, bat constant supervision would be required to so that tho provisions of the Bill, when it became law, were observed, and in that direction ha trasted the Society would be found useful. Mr. Hewett describel acts of cruelty to animals and birds ovearring in the Colony, and went on to state how the Socialy proposed to put them down. Its chief object was educational, and to that end it. was hoped they would be able to give prizes to be competed for by the obildren in the various schools, who would be asked to write essays on the question of kindness to animals. By this means, and by inflicting proper punishment where acts of gross cruelty had been committed. it was hoped to carry out the objcors for which the Bocialy had been formed. John
