PLAGUE AND THE USE OF SALT, TO THE EDITOR OF THE "DAILY PRESS,"
Hongkong, 20th June, SIE-I find a very interesting paragraph in your "Selentific Miscellany" of 19th inst. Daring the art of the plagas epidemia hero, in 1994, I had the question frequently put to me by Chinese friends, Mr. Smith, why do not Europoons et attacked by pingae To which my reply invariably was, Because they use salt when eating their meals! CONQUERED SCOTLAND!
TO THE EDITOR OF THE "DAILY PRESS.”
Hongkong, 20th June. Six-Being a Sostaman, I was amazed to rend the following passage in the London Jattur of the China Mail this evening -
England hey never sought to crush out of a conqueral or unauxed country the individual characteristics of its people and to merge it into one great race of absolute similarity, as has been so ansuccessfully tried by France, Germany, and Spain, and in this she has shown true wisdom, specially exemplified in the case of Scotland, which has retained all the old obivalry, hardiness and plack which made them auch dreaded foes in the long ago?
When, in the name of wonder, was Scotland ecuggered and unnexed? When the Scottisia Jumes VI assumed the British Crown ?
