Every branch of the Servis (the Military Hail says) is to be supplied with the new quiversul pattern rifle. The eract design of this weapon has been finally approved, and a sealed pattern is in the War office. So far os the breach mechanism is concerned there is no change, except that the new rifle cartridges ure faded in a clip, exactly the same as the Boer Mauser, only the clip is oxydised justend of bright. The new ride equals the existing type as regards velocity, trajectory and penetration, but the back sight is worked on the principle of the sighting of the Maxim gan.

Possibly the greatest difference is in weight; the new rifle weighs exactly eight pounds four bances, or one pound less than the present rifle. This lightness is a very desirable quality, and

In appearance the new weapon is not unlike a kind of Maxim gun. The woodou stock ex- tends up to within one inch of the end of the barrel, and almost completely encircles it. This alteration has necessitated the adoption of a fresh method of affixing the bayonet, and the bayonet ring is no longer slipped over the muzzle, bat over a small round piece of steel that projecte from the top of the stock. The hilt of the bayonot is secured by a special spring osteh about four inches below the top of the stock.
