London. 16th Decemler.. The adjournment of the House of Commons Was moved last night to discuss tie Vonezuelan affair. Mr. Balfour, in the 'course of a state- ment, declared that the crux of the difficulty was in the outrageous treatment accorded to British abipowniors and seamen, and the invariable refusal of any compensation. He denied absolutely that Groot-Britain's financial claims were the origin of the dispate. He said that Great Britain was ready to agree to the appointment of a tribunal to assess there claima. Ile farther stated that Venezuela had sugested urbitalien, bat orly after the amicocement of hostilities.
Lord Cranborne said Great Britain bad to perform palico duties throughout the world and prevent nations like Venezuela breaking the laws of nations. The match was wou for the Club by the excellence of their balf and three-quarter back play. The Navy was rather stronger forward, but the Club forwards were good, though they passed a little too loosely. The Navy halves were not as strong as usual, and indeed it has been suggested that a better team behind the "sorum" might have been chosen from the ships hore just now. Both teams were fairly tired out by the end of the game, which was 55 minutes each way, The Club's victory was enthusiastically received. Teams :-

broke open some drawers and rifled them. They then visited the bulroom of Miss E. D. Skipton, the superintendent, who heard them and called for help. One man put his hand over her mouth and another held her by the throat, but the alarms had weu. given, anil the burglars released her to Recare their own safety. Here further efforts were made to secure at least one of the burglars till assis. tance arrived, and during the struggle Miss Hawker received a blow on the mouth. Public Works Department, was also attracted. to the scene, and assisted in abouring the burglars, two of whom were captured almost immediately. The third nearly managed to escape. He was chased down a lane by an Indian policu sergeant, and both fell down a fight of steps unnoticed in the darkness. Acceptance has been received, through the President of Argentina, of the conditions named by President Hanbury, of the Board of Agriculture, ander which Argentine cattle may be imported into England. It is said that this acceptance will result in such large im- portations of Argentine cattle as to reduce materially English demands upon the United States-Shanghai Times.
