A SERIES OF TRAGEDIES.
The death occurred in Shanghai on the morn- ing of the 3rd inst. of Mr. Herbert Augustus Cooper, pilot of the Messageries Maritimes Company, who was well known in Hongkong as well as in Shanghai. A remarkable series of tragedies has overtaken the Cooper family all of them men of fire physique, and this last ocenrrence is only a chimax to what has gone before. We take the following obituary notice from the Khanghui Mercury of the date Augustus Cooper, the well-known pilot of the Messagaries Maritimes, succumbed this morning at his residence, No, 1, Range Road, to diphtheria, Mr. Cooper, who was only recently married, was the leat of a splendid family of four brothers, the death of whom, one after the other in the vary prime of their rigorous early manhood, he formed one of the most melancholy stories ever recorded in the Far East, and the most profound sympathy is felt for his young widow, and for the sped mother who alone remains to mourn the loss of her sons.
