H. P. Tooker, executive engineer, P.W.D., was examined. He recounted the circumstance of the collapse on 18th July last, and said that the fallon wall bad been rebuilt; it was not, how ever, in plumb, the lower seven feet-that was, seven fost ulove the ground-being 14 inelies out of the straight. The back wall of the samo block was also out of plumb. Witness had But plumbed the south wall of the block, but this wall and besh pulled down and was being rebuilt. There was nothing, however, to lead him to suppose from what he saw that day, that the brieks or mortar had been wat ar saddened before the collapse, nor did he see any bricks no halt that they ould be bout in the hand, As far as witness could judge, the pation of the groand floor wall of No. 30 was the same then as it was to-day, but he did not notice then that that wall was out of plumb. The ways in which the collapse of the wall of No. 3) might have occurred were (1) crushing of the bricks, caused by bad or soft bricks; (2) the bonding might have been -bath
(3) the mortar might have been bad causing the bricks to slide and giving them no cohesion; (4) the wall might have been built out of plan to such an oxient us to cause it to totter; (5) there might have been a sub-first.
