SPORTING "NOTES. ·

To-day Badu Hongkong sportsmen busy chiefly with-orisket and football, interesting games. being promised both on the Crinket Ground and at the Happy Valley. The team to represent the H.K C.C, ». the Newy, should, judging only by last Saturday's match, render a very good account of itself, though room might possibly with advantage bave been found for Dixon's bowling With Fawcett, France-Hayhurst, Powell, Pearce, and Smith, however, the Club bas a good deal of variety in stack, while the batting shougth on paper looks sufficient for a good score. In minor cricket the match between the Craigengower C.C. and the retarded Volunteer Coronation Contingent should fur nish an interesting struggle.. A healthy variety of matches is all that is wanted to inspire fe into what we may call the second-class eriokat teams in Hongkong, and this sesion has started w.ll in thaf, respect.” -

The HK.A.FC. ln er countering the boldere of the Challenge Shield today have taken on aliff took, and a vistory for the Fusiliers seems natural. The Club's form sgainst the 62nd Co., B, A., Last week, was est, very encouraging, and a good deal of siteration will be required if they are to do as well as last year. It is too early to speak of Bhield prospects yet, but the departure of the E.W.F. teams, will make the competition to appramnoe very open* Judging by the six-a-side games there is a lot of promising material in the Club, but that of course is very different from the essential part of a Shield team. Tha site-side competition is drawing to its gloss, and the meeting next Wednesday of Messrs. Butherford'sand Wolfe's teams is being looked forward to with unusual interest, both sides having done remarkably well If anything, Wolfe's men are now the favourites.
