The following account shows that the Captain is a very kiadhnarled man indeed :-- On board the steamer there was a very poor min, nume Chau Fook, with his thres children. Chau Fook was in great distress when the loumer arrived at Hongkong. for he was ponuiless und unable to pay for the exi- gencies of the trip to return to his native conatry. The Captain hearing this at once gave him suwe measg out of his own pocket, and raised a subscription from the officers and passengers to help to enable him to rotaru to his native country with his three chikiren.
We leg to pabalt these few lines as an acknowledgment of our deepest gratitude

Charter of the Light on Toxo-let tien Island (marked on the Admiralty Charts as Sha-Ini-tien) has been changed.
The new Light is Dioptric, Group-flashing. of the Fourth Order, showing double white
ashes at intervals of 20 seconds.
The Light is elevated 51 fest above the level of the son and in clear weather it should be visible at a distance of 124 Luntical miles.
The height of the tower from base to lantern rane has been increased to 57 fost.
