IMPUDENT THEFT.
Chau Ying, of no occupation, was oberged with opening by means of a false key a box be- longing to the complainant, proprietor of forry launches rauning to Aberdeen, on the 13th inst, and stealing therefrom $50 is money and a diamond ring valued at $60. The theft was committed on board the ferry launch Lun On whilst on the passage from Victoria to Aberdeen. The defondant denied the charge.
The complainant stated in ovidence that he went down to his cabin and saw the defendant coming up. On going into the cabin ho found his box open and the contents gone. He immediately went on deck and accused tho defendant of being the thief. Chineso con- stable 142 was on board, and the complainant explained the facts to him. The defendant was then arrested,
