-LODGE ST. JOHN? INSTALLA-

TION AND BANQUET.

On Wednesday evening several iniportant functious took pisos in connection with local Masonry, namely the installation of the R. W. Mastor elect of the Lodge St. John, No. 618, s.e., the investment of the officers for the ensu- ing your, followed by a grand languet, which was attended by representatives of all the local Masonic lodges.

The coromony of installation, which was very impressive, took place in the Masonic Hall at 5 p.m. in the presence of the members of the Lodge and many visiling brethren. The R. W. District Grand Mastor the Hon. C. P. Chater, C.M.G., useisted by P.D.J.M. E. C. Ray, installed the R. W. Muster H. B. Bridger, and invested the officers of Lodge St.

John.

The following were the officers invested: Inmediate Pust Muster, Wor. Bro. J. Lochead; Wor. Ben. Wardon, Bro. W. Muskett, Tren hurer, Bro. W. C. Taylor; Senior Deacon, Br. H. Joweit, Organist, Bro. W.V. Terrill Inner Guard, Bro, G. Sim; Wor. Jun. Warden, Bro. J. A. Tarrant; Secretary. Bro, W. M. Everall; Janier Deacon. Bro. F. A. Allen Dir. of Ceremonies, Wor. Bro. W. Farmer; the Tyler, Stowurde, Bros. F. Allen and R. Jonos.

་རྣ

After the ceremony the brethren desconded to the Banquet Hall, where they were joined by a number of non-Masonio guests, and a com- pany of about 160 sat down to dinner.

The Hall hd best splendidly decorated by the Decoration Committee, who, with coloured fairy lamps, illuminated emblems of the craft, plants and flowers, coloured tapestry, and the many other things which lend themselves to the art of ormonintation, had transformed the ordinarily bleak compartment into a brilliant and extremely picturesque dining-room. Con-

spienous amongst the docerations were the very pretty illuminated insignia of the Lodge, de- signed by W. Bro. Farmer, placed at the end of the room opposite the R. W. Muster: An excellent dinner was provided by Mosers. Adar and Farmor, the wines being from Mosers. Watson & Co., Lal.

The banquet finished, the rest of the evening was devoted to toasts, speeches and barmony. The programme was very happily arranged, and it is worthy of reproduction,, the quotations boing very acceptable. The speeches were mostly well dofvored, and tonehing references were made to absent brothers in South Africa, and those who had passed bence. The songs of the avening wore the two by Bro. Alec Marsh, he singing" The Banks of Loch Lomond" as un encore, and "Father O'Flynn" sung later by Bro. Barris. Bro. Tirrell sang well, re- ceiving un uncore, and Bros. Stephenson and Bridger were loudly applauded for their comic songs. Among those who also sang ware Bros. Longhurat and Jenkins, and Mr. Smart. Bros. Ward and Longhurst accompanied the singers and a mest enjoyable evening tras spent by all present. The toast list was as follows:-
