A Board of Trade return of the mambor of ships detained under the Merchant Shipping Act of last assiga, from October, 1876, to March, 1877, Juclosive, shows that the total amber of vessels 'detained for alleged defects in hull, equipmente, or machinery was eighty-two. Of these sixty- "eight, wore reported by Government-officers eleven by eros, and three by other persons. With the exception of ons ons, in which the survey is still pending, all these varsels were found to be unsafe. Twenty-three ships wor also detained owing to their having been reported na overladen. Mr. Bulater-Booth, M.P., President of the.
