The Stone Quarries and Salt License have both increased, the

former from £166 to Lyou, the latter from £146 to £306.

I anticipate a considerable increase in the produce of the License for the retail of Spirituous and Fermented Liquors, which has been

raised

1 from 50 to 100 Dollars.

The different taxes hitherto imposed have been levied at little or no expense; the charges of Custom house have been avoided; and no encroachment whatever has been

a

yet made on the perfect freedom of the Port . A total produce of £27,000 is

therefore not altogether

unfavourable
