MONETARY PROSPECTS.

The Economie observes that a regards the prospects of the market, the pricoipal event has heen the rise in the French Exchange already noticed, but the rise, it should be observed, is not yet to a point in favour of this country. It no longer pays to take gold out of the Beak for Paris, but parobases of gold are still made liere on Frenob account. The likelikoca of faribor shipments of gold of importanos from Ameries ang bloo been diminished this week, the. Now York Bróbauge having fallen, while the hoursity of gold in New York continues to be shown by the paintenance of the premium at 1144. Some alarm was caused during the week by a report tha: Germany was again going to buy gold, but although inquiries for gold on German account are undoret of to bave been caude there has been nothing to indicate as yet a demand of any Urgency, such as will, wasa, sones a withdrawal from the Bank it no supplies can be obtained in the open market. According to the German osinage programme for the current year, Ger- maay proposes to usin only £2,509,600 in gold during the current year, an amount which will bo easily supplied. Pressure from Germany is now perhaps more likely to come through the working of the new banking system than through the direct intervention of the Govern... ment in buying gold. See pd
