a Limited Braking Company, with the abovo title in the belief that there is nut only foun, but actual necessity, for the ad. ditional facilities which suob uu institution will afford to the lurgo local, consting, and foreign trade which centres in this port

The great, extension of steam communi. oation both by ses and river, and the area. tion of telegraphis connections, since tüs existing Local Bank was founded, bara greatly added to the importance of Sbang- hai, antif it has become the great depôt or distributing point for the trade of North- ern and Central China; but, while it seama desirable that Shanghai should bự the head-quarters of the new Bank, and its direction on the spot where the principal interests are involved, a local Committee will be formed in Hongkong for the pro- motion of the undertaking there.

The Buccess of other public companies in Shanghai and Hongkong, and the evidence of a large sum of money seeking invest ment in China, encourage tho belief that thic proposed Capital for this Benk will bo readily subscribed; many influential native merchants have already come forward as active proinoters and supportere, of tho undertaking, and the Committee look for a very valuable constituency from Chinese
