PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by a Proclamation, bearing date the 22nd of June, 1844, made in pursuance of the powers vested in the Governors of Her Majesty's Colonies by a certain Act of Parliament passed in the sixth year of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Fourth, intituled "An Act for punishing offences committed by Transports kept to labour in the Colonies, and better regulating the powers of Justices of the Peace in New South Wales," and of an order issued, in pursuance of the said Act of Parliament, by Her Majesty, with the advice of Her Privy Council, on the 22nd day of May, 1840, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies did appoint, that any offenders convicted in the Colony of Hongkong, and being under sentence or order of transportation, should be sent by the first convenient opportunity to Van Diemen's Land or Norfolk Island; and Whereas, subsequently to the issuing of the said Proclamation, Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies has signified to the said Governor, that no provision has been made in those Colonies for the reception of such offenders: Now, therefore, the said Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, does hereby publicly notify and declare the said Proclamation of the 22nd June, 1844, to be rescinded and revoked.
