I do myself the honor to
acknowledge the receipt of your letter wherein His Excellency has signified his
pleasure of my doing the duties Marine Magistrate without any increase
of Salary, deeming my residence Equivalent for their performance. To this decision I of course must
bow, but I would nevertheless

His Excellency's indulgence to be permitted to state a few facts for his consideration, in the hope that he will have the goodness to write to Lord Stanley in my behalf for
increase of Salary.
