I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No: 1/41 of the 2nd Instant. I am directed to inform you that the reply to the reference made to Her Majesty's Government on the subject of that letter having been received on the 29th of January, His Excellency the Governor in Council is pleased to direct that the 14th of February, 1844, shall be the date on which the Parties alluded to in that letter are to commence paying rent for the several lots of Land in their occupation which are included within the lines proposed by Major Aldrich as the limits of the "Cantonment."
