Government Notification.
G. H. Mead Esqre Marine Magistrate and Harbour Master at Chusan is appointed to be Assistant Deputy Post Master at that Port.
All letters that may come for individuals at Chusan will in future be forwarded to Mr. Mead by such opportunities as may offer, and that Gentleman will deliver them on application, and the Postage (if any) chargeable on them being paid to him.
Mr Mead will likewise henceforward always keep a Box open for letters to be transmitted to Hongkong - whether for delivery there or to be reshipped to Europe, India, or elsewhere - but he cannot receive any Postage on those letters and all Persons having letters to be sent to any of the Countries to which the payment of Postage at Hongkong is compulsory, as set forth in the Post Office Regulations published in the Government Gazette of the 9th Instant - must inclose such letters to an Agent or Friend at Hongkong to pay the Postage upon them.
Letters that may come for individuals at any of the Ports where a Consul is stationed will henceforward be...
