18.43 was paid into the hand of Lieut: Colonel Wilson C.B. Cat: Paymaster in China, and his receipt, of which I enclose a copy forwarded under cover to the Post Master General, Calcutta.
The sum now remitted would have been forwarded at the close of the quarters ending 31st Oct 1843 and 31 Jan 1844, could it have been done without loss to the Indian Post Office but the exchange for Mexican dollars which are received at the rate of 225 Rupees per $100 did not exceed 218 @ 220 per 100 dollars and it was not till very lately that arrangements have been made between Her Majesty's Plenipotentiary in China and the Government of India to grant Bills for Public money at par.
