Hongkong February 28 1844.

Sam directed by His Excellency the Governor in Council to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th inst and to enclose for information of the Honorable Major General D'Aguilar a copy of a letter written this day to the owners of the Houses situated within the ground allotted for Military purposes. The moment replies come to hand, I will again have the honor to address you. In the meantime I am to beg to draw your attention to the request made by you to the Honorable the Major General to instruct the Commissariat Department to withhold the rents of the Houses from the end of this month.
