above adverted to, that the Honorable the Major General should pay as proposed by him in his letter under reply - the further sum of Rupees 200 per mensem : part of the rent of Mr. Lani's House (until public Quarters can be built) and that the balance of the rent namely rupees 100 should be disbursed from the Civil Treasury pending the pleasure of Her Majesty's Government for whose information and commands this arrangement (caused by the peculiar circumstances of this Colony) will be submitted by the mail that is to leave on the 18th Instant.

I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to acquaint you for notice of the Honorable the Major General that a person named Hwang residing at Chuck Choo has presented a Petition in which he sets forth that he has a Rope walk at "Chuck Choo, that he gave up a part of it last year for public purposes, that the Coolies now at work are throwing rubbish and stones on the part which he reserved and thereby spoiling it, and that he therefore begs that the Officer Commanding may be instructed to prevent this being done at Chuck Choo
