complaints made by the Passengers of the "Lady Amherst", and intimating your protest against the conduct of Captain Brice the Officer Commanding the Detachment of troops which came out from England in that vessel. In reply I am directed by the Governor
to inform you that a Committee will be appointed to investigate all the circumstances of the case, at which investigation His Excellency recommends you to cause the Master and Officers of the Lady Amherst to be present in order that they may give any evidence they may have to offer, which is to be recorded and duly taken into consideration.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No: 648 of yesterday's date, accompanied by a letter from Captain Bruce of Her Majesty's 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment and other Papers connected with complaints against the Master, the "Lady Amherst."
Almost at the same moment your letter came to hand, I received an appeal from Mr. Queen - one of the owners of the Lady Amherst, who is now in this Colony - against Captain Bruce's proceedings.
I frequent that you will be pleased to order a Committee to investigate the matter, and I have informed Mr. Queen that this will be done.
