His Excellency the Governor to intimate to you that circumstances have lately come to His Excellency's knowledge which induce him to direct that you will not consider the sum for which the Marine Lot lately in possession of Messrs Bales & Kent sold as any available part of their Estate and that you will hold that amount (whatever it may be) in deposit pending further instructions which will be furnished to you when certain inquiries have been completed.

With reference to the Government Notification of the 20th of August published in the Hongkong Gazette of the 24th that month appointing you and others to be a Committee to inquire into the claims of Holders of Land, &c, &c, and with further reference to my letter to you of the 22nd Ultimo No: 112 regarding Cleverly's appointment I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to intimate to you for the information of yourself and the Gentlemen associated with you in the above duties that Mr Cleverly is to take the place of the deceased Captain de Havilland in the Committee.

A notification to this effect will appear in the next Gazette.
