I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No 48 of the 8th Instant in reply to mine No:114 of the 14th Instant and to convey to you the sanction of His Excellency the Governor to the temporary arrangement you propose of employing Mr Tarrant as Clerk in your Office and Mr. Strachan as Inspector of Roads &c.

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 8th Instant. in which you represent that owing to the rocky difficult nature of the Ground which it was proposed to excavate for the site of the Government Clerk's Houses, the crection of which was sanctioned by His Excellency the Governor on the 4th of July last, and which have been delayed by your sickness and that of others of your Department; it has been discovered that an Extra Expence of $700 will be required for the completion of those Buildings and which sum you accordingly request may be sanctioned.
