You further submit that it will cost about $450 to repair the road and replace the Bamboo Bridges by Wooden once of a stronger description, and apply for sanction to that outlay

Sir,

You are directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated on the 11th inst. (but only received three days ago) in which you report that during the very heavy Rains that occurred in August and September last the Road leading to the Military Cantonment of Check Choo on the Southern side of the Island was much damaged and that in the subsequent floods consequent to the deluge of Rain

In reply I am directed to inform you that His Excellency the Governor approves of the Road being repaired and the Bridges being replaced in the manner you propose, but before the amount can be sanctioned you are required to send in an exact Estimate of the Expense. In the meantime an advance of $300 will be ordered to be made to you by the Colonial Treasurer and Financial Secretary.
