I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your Lordship's letter, 805117 of the 9th, and in reply to say, that I think it very desirable, that the Evening Gun, should continue to be fired at 9 P. M. until such a Harbour Police can be established as shall obviate the necessity for the prohibition against Chinese Boats plying after that hour.

I therefore beg, that your Lordship will be so good as to give orders accordingly.

With reference to the Distressed British Seaman, John Walter, mentioned in your letter, N. 154, of the 13th Instant; the Colonial Surgeon has reported him to be in a fit state to be removed from the Hospital, I am directed by His Excellency, the Governor to request You, to arrange for his going to England by the first opportunity; and should there be no vessel bound direct to England, likely to leave this Port in a short time, His Excellency desires You to place Yourself in Communication with Mr. Ricketts, the British Consular Agent at Macao, and request...
