I am directed by Sir Henry Pottinger to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 29th of last month with two sketches of the survey of the Northern face of the Island of Hongkong, and to inform you that His Excellency considers you to be entitled to his best thanks for the satisfactory manner in which the Survey has been effected at so short a notice, amid the obstacles to which you refer.
