At the recommendation of Major-General Lord Saltoun, commanding the Land Forces in China, the Honourable the Governor is pleased to direct that on all occasions where Guards on shore are furnished by Troops stationed on board Ship, such Guards shall be supplied with the usual daily allowance of fire-wood, by the Commissariat Department.
This Order is to have retrospective effect with regard to the Troops on board Her Majesty's ship Sapphire.

At the recommendation of Major-General Lord Saltoun, commanding the Land Forces in China, the appointment of Serjeant Thomas Miller, of H. M. 98th Regiment, to be Garrison Serjeant-Major, of Victoria, is confirmed from the 1st instant, on a Staff Salary of Twenty Rupees per month, and the following establishment is also sanctioned from the same date.
