that that Officer does not attempt, in the letter, to justify his former my duty as one, of which I had felt it to be Government the Head of Her Majesty's of this Colouring, to state my opinion to your Lordship, your 2::1 also because I do not imagine, that "Lordship could have thought it possible, that such a mass of irrelevant explanation and details (and which would of themselves when transcribed in the communications are ordered to be sent-home in duplicate form a large despatch) could be forwarded uncalled for to Her Majesty's Government.
It is a matter of the purest indifference to me whether my letter or not, and I will acknowledge the weight of your Lordship's sanction, I should not even have noticed it.
I return Lient: Ouchterlony's last letter and I have declined taking any share henceforth in the Estimates and Charges regarding Military Buildings. those matters now seem to me to follow, that the transmission of my explanation which Lieut. Ouchterlony, or any other Officer employed on those Buildings may have forwarded, must depend on your Lordship's pleasure.
