With respect to the Cantonments required in the vicinity of the Barracks which are generally known by the name of "Cantonment Hill Barracks", and the Barracks which are now in progress of erection close to the Harbor on the western side of the Commissariat and Ordnance Stores, I have consulted with Mr Gordon (the Land Officer) and have myself examined the Land in the neighbourhood. The result of my consultation and examination has been, that I have intimated to Mr Gordon, that I consider it will be a most excellent arrangement to assign this Cantonment all the land lying between the Ravine that runs along the Eastern side of Government Hill and the Ravine that divides Hospital Hill from the location belonging to Messrs. Holliday Wise & Co., merely reserving a passage towards the Queen's Road of the depth of the ranges of shops known by the names of the "Canton and Megan's Bazars."

I estimate, that if property is laid out judiciously in regular streets, the ground included within the boundaries I have defined will afford capital locations for not less than from 80 to 100 Houses for officers, and it is very improbable that beyond that number will ever be required.
