of the Treaty with China shall be exchanged.

That

event has been unexpectedly

delayed by the death of the Imperial

Commissioner Elliot, but I expect his

successor

at

Canton early next month, and

shall therefore feel obliged by Your directing that duplicate Copies of any of the

Papers enumerated in the accompanying

list

(that

may

in point, and any others

that Your Honor in Council

may

consider likely to be of use to me) shall be sent on

to this Place by the first two opportunities.

The charge for the Papers in question

will be remitted to the proper department

on my

being informed of the Amount.
