Macau, 15th February 1871.

You will have received from Mr Johnston a copy of his letter to my address of the 6th Inst., which reached me on the 11th, but I have been ever since engaged in an unceasing round of important business that has prevented my turning my attention to it.

I propose, if my business here admits, to visit Hong Kong for a day or two shortly, and in the meantime, I have requested Mr Johnston to give effect to your Lordship's instructions.
