Senior officers of Her Majesty's
and Land Forces, which is so
Naval
essential
to the well being and efficiency of the important trust which is placed your charge.
I shall communicate the purport of this letter to Captain Sir Thomas Spertent, the C.B., and Major-General Burrell, C.M.G. To the former officer, in particular, I feel deeply indebted for the warm interest he has evinced in everything connected with this Settlement, as
well
as
for
the kind assistance and suggestions I have received from him on every
branch
of my proceedings and duties.
I came down here in
February last;
and it is a matter
of
sincere congratulation to me, that
You will have him, for a time at least, to consult with and assist you, in
measures which the course of
any
events
may
render necessary
without a previous reference to me.
I have, &c. (Signed) Henry Pottinger,
Chief Superintendent.
