Government House, Houghtong May 9th, 1842

I have the honor to inform You, that Their Excellencies the Naval and Military Commanders-in-Chief have sent down to this Place certain Persons who are to be confined as State (that is Political) Prisoners, pending Instructions from Her Majesty's Government, and I request you will be pleased to instruct the chief Magistrate accordingly. Should there not be room in the Jail, I see no objection to their being kept in the stocks (being allowed.
