I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 18th instant, which you had had sent to me under cover to correspond with certain Backhouse regarding the arrangements then in force on the subject of the delivery of letters.
I have already intimated to you, in my letter A: 28 of the 7th ultimo, my request that you should arrange for the packet-boats touching at those ports to be opened with the officers of Macao, Brougham, as Vessels of con-siderable convenience, and I am now more satisfied than I was at that time of the necessity for that request being carried into full effect.
In England, at all the Port Offices of consequence, the convenience and wishes of Merchants are consulted
