I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your Excellency's letter of yesterday with its various Enclosures on the subject of proposed positions being taken at Hongkong and Chusan.
I shall instruct Mr. Johnston by the next opportunity to see that the locality already selected is not interfered with, and I will be happy to consult Your Excellency's wishes as to a similar reservation being made at Chusan at the same time that you may be pleased to decide on the site.
