I have had the honor to receive your letter of the 6th ultimo, giving cover to a copy of one which you had written to Major General Burrell, regarding the Affairs in the Island of Hongkong.
I herewith forward a packet addressed to the Earl of Auckland G. C. B. which will show you the correspondence which has since passed on the subject between the Brevet Lieutenant General Le Gendre Stark and myself.
I request you will retain copies of these letters for your guidance, as well as to provide for the probable contingency of their being hereafter referred to, and that you will transmit the Packet to Calcutta by the first opportunity.
