also refused hearing any verbal statement of the Case it remained for G que only bring it before the Earl of Aberdeen, (the Island not then become a Colony) having Colony) which I did by letter, dated January 15th 1843, a reply to which was made from the Colonial Office, and which was communicated to me on the 11th July 1843 by Mr Woosnam, Acting Secretary, in the following terms.

"I am directed by the Governor to inform you that the instructions received from Lord Stanley with respect to the lots of ground claimed by yourself and Mr Kinsley are to be guided by the general Rules laid down for all other lands, and which Rules will be promulgated as soon as they can be framed and decided on.

At from this Letter it appeared that my Claims to the ground was recognised; and Compensation for it, was due as the unfinished buildings were likely to become entirely ruinous before a second reference to England the result of could be known, I applied subsequently for permission to complete the buildings, which would be the means of preserving the value laid out on them, and that be advantageous, whether the Lots should eventually be taken over or remain with me

I received a refusal by Government, to which application and was informed at the same time, that what has hitherto "passed does not in the opinion of His Excellency give you the slightest claim"
