Having had the advantage of Mr John Pope's services as my chief assistant, I have very great pleasure in bearing testimony in the fullest extent to the constant zeal, talent and ability displayed by him in the surveying, setting out, and superintending works of great variety and importance, In the management and direction of numerous workmen.
The measuring up and weekly settlement of their Accounts together with the Book keeping and financial accounts of the District:
Mr Pope had also the entire charge and direction of forming the Branch line of Railway to Folkstone Harbour, the construction of a similar Pier therein and the clearing out of the Harbour and removal of the Bar at the entrance.
In every instance Mr Pope has in the most satisfactory manner fully justified the unlimited confidence.
