Dear Sir,

474

Mr Cubitt's name and character are so well-known that a certificate from him would almost appear superfluous. As however you think otherwise, I readily say, that so far as my knowledge (from your being a regular attendant at the Meetings of the Institution) extends, it fully confirms what Mr Cubitt has stated.

I may add that I have no doubt of your application to Mr Blore, in whose family I have met you, would procure a Certificate from that Eminent Architect. I know you also as the author of two papers which were thanks deservedly voted to you by the Institution viz. "a description of a Girder Bridge with drawings" and "a description of the mode of laying the permanent way upon the South Eastern Railway."

I am, dear Sir, yours obediently,

(Signed) I. Walker
