The Paris Moniteur states that the engineers of the groat Crengot Steel Works are engagal in drawing out plans and estimates for the bridge wrong the Channel, advocated by Admi- ral Club, iste Minister of Marine, und that the latter is supported in his scheme by several load- ing French engineers. It is proposed to rast the bridge on nerate ers. The height of it is to be do stres, thus enabling the largest vessels to pass, under it, and it is to be built of iron from the abov-named works. It is to start from Cran-nux-Œufs, south of Cape Grisnez, and run in a straight line across the Channel to Folkestone; this distance votON being the smallest, but offering the last depth of water. It is maintaited by the promoters of this scheme that the bridge, unlike the Channel Tunnel, will be of no strategical value in caso of war, as the blowing an of a few pillars at either end would deprive an enemy of its use. The journal named further states that M. Héro- dia, the Franoh Minister of Work, is in favcor of Admiral Clone's plan, and is stready taking steps for inducing the English Government to assist in carrying out this gigantic scheme.

law progress' of Christianity in Mahomedan ecution. It Led boon mid that while Mabome. daniam as the progress of temperance, Chris tianity was followed by the inevitable British comuron, and with it British drunkenness. Bot that was not the fault of Christianity and those who preached it. It was owing to the fact that British trade ponotrated wherever it could, and nsturally the thing was sold that was most in de mand, this being strong drink. The only thing that could be done was toandog your to mitigate the evil done by traders. The Church was power Tess in the matter, except to urge Christians to do their best to remedy the mischief done by tradera. and to point out the repribeh which this brought apon Christianity. This was the most important question that Christians could consider.. It was true that Christianity in Mahomedän onnnfries had of late mada slow progress, but what of that?
