Brigadier General Sir David Ximenes,

I should be most happy to be employed under Her Most Gracious Majesty again, having had the honor to serve under your Lordship's command as Lieutenant Colonel, should it be necessary.

I have the honor to be,

My dear Sabine,

Having intimated your intentions of applying for active employment, it affords me the pleasing opportunity of expressing the high sense I have invariably entertained of your merits during the many years you have served in the 16 Regiment, several of these under my immediate command, which can vouch for your zeal, efficiency, and capacity to serve, and constant attention to the duties of your profession.

Whenever your services may hereafter be called for, I am confident you will acquit yourself with credit. The esteem and consideration you have gained from those you have served under will be upheld.

Yours faithfully,

(Signed) A. Campbell, Lt. Col.

Comdg. 16 Regt.
